Meeting Ireland’s Energy Challenge is theme for 2008 Energy Show
Sustainable Energy Ireland presents the 2008 Energy Show – RDS, Dublin April 16th and 17th 2008
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) has announced final details for the 2008 Energy Show, due to take place at the RDS, Dublin on April 16th and 17th. SEI is expecting this year’s show to be the biggest yet and has moved the event to the Main Hall at the RDS to accommodate an anticipated surge in interest this year as continuing developments domestically and internationally drive increased attention in the area of sustainable energy.
The theme of this year’s show, which is now firmly established as the national showcase for the sustainable energy sector and attracts a broad spectrum of visitors from across Ireland and abroad, is ‘Meeting Ireland’s Energy Challenge’. The event’s seminar programme will this year include invited speakers from abroad who will share insights and expertise from their own countries with the aim of enhancing both new thinking and best practice in Ireland.
Over 130 companies, many from outside Ireland, will exhibit at this year’s show and several of the technologies being demonstrated will be on display for the first time in Ireland. The latest advice and guidance from professionals operating at the forefront of areas such as Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Energy Management, Biomass, PV and Solar Thermal Energy will also be available at the show. This will make it a unique and valuable hub for information of interest to anyone in an energy related profession.
In addition to the two day trade exhibition, the show incorporates a strong seminar programme covering all aspects of energy efficiency and renewable energy of interest to Irish business. Seminars will have break-out sessions where insights and knowledge on current issues, best practice and future developments on achieving low energy consumption and minimisation of associated carbon emissions are discussed collaboratively.
David Taylor, Chief Executive, SEI said; “The sustainable energy sector has undergone an enormous transformation in recent years. It has moved from the fringes to being a central consideration in the Irish economy and has been driven by developments at national and international policy level as well as the onset of harsh economic realities associated with rising oil prices. The Energy Show is an integral element of the development of the sector in this country and I would urge anyone with an involvement in the sector to attend.”
First held in 1996, the Energy Show has continued to grow in recent years. Visitors attending the show come from a wide range of backgrounds. However the event is specifically aimed at businesses or individuals with a professional interest in, or responsibility for, energy use. SEI’s website has been updated to include a dedicated portal for the Show containing up to the minute information on all aspects of this year’s show. The portal is accessible at: www.sei.ie/energyshow
A number of recent legislative changes impacting the building sector, namely the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) will make the 2008 Energy Show of even more interest to developers, builders and property professionals. The provisions of the EPBD include requirements to set minimum energy performance standards, and for commercial buildings in particular requirements for feasibility assessment of alternative energy systems, superior air conditioning and boiler efficiencies. In the home building sector Part L of the Building Regulations has been subject to significant revision which will mean a 40% improvement in energy performance over current regulations.
The 2008 Energy Show commences at 8:30 am on Wednesday 16th of April and runs for two days.
