Daventry Patios

Patio installation across Daventry and the surrounding area

First job I did on clay soil, the slabs started rocking inside a fortnight. Learned fast what Daventry ground actually does to a poorly laid patio.

We mix our own 4:1 sharp sand cement bedding mortar on site. That ratio matters. Get it wrong and you get movement, cracking, water sitting where it should not.

Right, here is what we cover:

  • Porcelain tiled patios
  • Indian sandstone and limestone slabbing
  • Concrete flagstone installations
  • Garden paths and paving
  • New walling and kerbing
  • Timber fencing
  • Artificial grass and turfed lawns

We work across Daventry and surrounding Northamptonshire postcodes, and we know the local ground conditions well. If you have ever driven out past Ryton Pools you will have seen how quickly the landscape shifts from firm to waterlogged, and gardens around here behave the same way.

A lot of people try laying their own patio. On a level garden with decent topsoil, some manage it. However, on a sloping plot or ground with heavy clay underneath, it is a different story entirely. Clay moves with moisture. It expands, it contracts, and it will lift your slabs unevenly over a single winter. So a patio laid without proper sub-base preparation and drainage falls apart, and you end up paying twice. That is the whole truth of it, no messing about.

So we dig properly, grade the falls for drainage, and we do not cut corners on the bed. It takes longer. It costs a fair bit more than a man with a van and a bag of postcrete. But it stays put, and the job looks well after five years, not just five months.
