Bracket spacing matters. A gutter installed with fixings set too far apart will sag under load, and a 3 to 4 mm fall per metre is what keeps water moving toward the outlet rather than sitting in the channel and overflowing at the joints. We set everything to those tolerances before we come down off the ladder.

Worth noting.

The catchment areas around the Tolka river see surface water build up quickly in a downpour. However, a correctly sized and pitched gutter system handles that load without complaint, provided the downpipes are clear and properly connected at the base.
